The stands themselves came in every shape and size, from simple, one-of-kind buildings housing local operations, to sophisticated designs that were growing into nation-wide chains. Both types had common characteristics including close proximity to the road for maximum visibility and accessibility to passing motorists, ample parking right next to the building, prominently placed service windows, colorful paint schemes, and eye-catching signage.
 
Now, one can be part of your HO layout with the Velvet Freeze Grill, representing a typical mom-and-pop ice cream stand of the 1950s and 1960s. Designed for easy construction the kit features laser-cut walls and "metal" roofing, as well as picnic tables, intricate icicle trim for the soffits, a resin ice cream cone, air conditioner and trash cans, plus full-color signs.
